Towcestrians took to a wet and very windy Greens Norton Road pitch for their second cup match in 5 days, this time the Quarter Final of the Alliance Cup against nearby Daventry
Playing against a driving wind Tows opened the scoring inside a minute through centre Pepe Nanci, James Falvey, whose been knocking them over like skittles recently, adding the extras, but with the underfoot conditions worsening by the minute the Tows running game failed to function, the visitors putting up a determined defensive effort, Tows had all the possession they could want but only showed their class on a couple of occasions with Alex Chalcraft continuing to add to his impressive seasons tally with two more tries before the half, Daventry replying with a penalty, for Tows to turn around with the wind now at their backs 17 - 3 to the good.
For most of the second half Tows ignored the wind advantage and looked to run everything but came unstuck in the difficult handling conditions, only adding a line out drive try from Liam Wilkinson.
As the game came into its final quarter, the work already undertaken by the Daventry defence, the conditions and Tows superior fitness finally showed and the floodgates opened as Tows ran in 6 tries, Chalcraft completed his Hat-trick, No.8 Craig Holton going over for a couple, Ben Roe and Prop Peter Gowler finishing the scoring to take Tows through to the Semi-final
Tows 3rds came back from what looked like a difficult away trip to Huntingdon 2nd's with a hugely impressive 12 - 21 victory, while the Colts game was abandoned after an injury with Tows leading 7 -19
Towcestrians return to league action this week at Home against a strong Oxford Harlequins side who held the table toppers to a draw last time round
