Stockwood Park RFC 1st XV 21pts Vs Towcestrians RFC 1st XV 35pts
20th November 2010
Towcester scraped a win after travelling down the M1 with a side depleted by illness and injury.
Stockwood Park took an early seven point lead after a solo chip and chase. Towcester clawed their way back into the game, first striking through their forwards who scored with a catch and drive from a line –out.
Wing Dave Devlin-Jones followed suit, finishing a move out wide and then James Falvey, switching from wing to full-back amid the late changes, tore through Park’s forward to put in Matt Bodily.
Matt Yuill added a penalty to his earlier conversion and Towcester lead 7-20.
The two sides exchanged scores just before half time, with hooker Richard Tustian, being driven over for Towcester.
As the fog descended, Towcester managed to find their form, stringing together a host of passes for Brandon Kerr to score.
The Towcester pack flexed its muscles again and drove the Park scrum over the line for No 9 Ed Shires to touch down on his debut.
Stockwood grabbed a consultation try at the death but Towcester came away with the points to leave themselves a point off the leaders.
Next week Towcester have a double bill of cup action. They take on Bugbrooke in the Alliance Cup on Thursday night (KO 7.30pm) and Ludlow in the National Cup (KO 2pm). Both games are at Greens Norton Road.
