Towcestrians made the long away trek to Salisbury for their third league game of the season looking to continue their winning start, however, a poor start failing to clear the Kick off put Tows under some immediate pressure resulting in a penalty conceded right in front of the posts, the switched on Salisbury no.9 nipped over for the games first score, easily converted by Salisbury Fly Half Tom Lane, the first of his 100% kicking record for the afternoon.
Things didn’t improve with Tows failing to claim their own line out ball in attacking positions letting Salisbury off the hook, soon after a Yellow card to Callum Threlfall followed by a scrum on the Tows line led to a penalty try and another straight forward conversion for a 14-0 lead to the home side.
The Tows backs showed themselves capable with a sniff of good ball, breaking out of their own 22 winger Wesley Roberts making ground to find Chrissie George in support to go over for the score, Tows fly half Scott Browne followed this with a Penalty to get the Tows back in the game at 14-8 but a string of errors and penalties conceded allowed Lane to add two penalties to give Salisbury a Half time lead of 20 – 8
Tows needed to respond quickly and did so at the start of the second half with Pepe Nanci scoring for Tows following a line out and good forward work but again indiscipline cost resulting in two more quickly converted penalties from Salisbury, Tows responded when James Falvey nipped in from Scrum half to get the Tows within 4 points but another Yellow card and resultant penalty followed by more good work from the Salisbury pack to pick and drive consistently eventually leading to a final penalty denied the Tows a losing bonus point.
Tows really need to put this set back behind them quickly before the visit of Leighton Buzzard to Greens Norton road next week, after the game coach Darren Snook said “of course it was a really disappointing result but we will learn lessons from this, we have to front up to our mistakes, work hard and make sure it doesn’t happen again”
