Captain Zac leads from the front

With a string of 6 victories to their name, Witney arrived at Greens Norton Road full of confidence in this table topping clash, again the weather and muddy conditions meaning it would be a hard fought forward oriented battle

It was Witney who completely dominated the opening exchanges, having total control in the scrum and winning the collisions, leading to the opening unconverted try from Callum Godfrey, the large Towcestrians crowd concerned that their teams unbeaten home run could come to an end

Tows gradually found their feet and worked their way back in to the match, good forward pressure resulting in hard working skipper Zac Osborne going over, James Falvey’s conversion from out wide striking the post, Towcestrians had control of the territory in spite of still struggling in the scrum and with another Falvey penalty turned around 8 – 5 ahead

Falvey’s second penalty gave Tows some breathing space in what was proving a very well matched encounter, but it was Witney who came back with a try, their backs creating room for left wing Rees Morgan to score

With the game now completely in the balance it was Tows who upped the pace going close on several occasions before returning replacement scrum half, Dave Stocks, nipped over from the base of the ruck to score, Falvey’s conversion was good allowing Tows to see out a hard fought victory and deny the visitors the losing bonus point

With that victory and Salisbury losing the Tows now find themselves 12 points clear at the top of the league from Salisbury with Witney now 15 points adrift

After the game Director Of Rugby Robbie George spoke about the teams application “it was a really tough game, they were very well drilled and made it extremely hard for us, the lads showed great application and determination to get us over the line, Zac Osborne really led from the front with his carrying, and again we showed what depth we have in the squad with Jonty Barrie making his debut in the back row and doing a terrific job”

Towcestrians travel away to Reading on Saturday, who despite their league position should not be taken lightly, prior to this weekend they were the only team to have denied Tows a try bonus point at home and have been narrow losers in games against the top teams

Towcestrians 2nd XV reversed their only defeat of the season beating Nuneaton 2nd XV, whose 1st XV play two leagues above the Towcestrians 1’s, 15 – 34, while the 3rds took the league points in commanding fashion with a 39 – 5 victory over Old Scouts 2nd XV, The Colts coming up short against Buckingham
