Towcestrians travelled away to Swindon this week, having put themselves under pressure in the league following back to back defeats, and having only 4 games left to play and a slender lead at the top of the table, knew this was a must win.
With conditions perfect for running rugby Tows got off to the ideal start, returning centre Ben Young crossing wide out, James Falvey converting from the touch to get into the groove and followed it with a penalty for an early Tows 0 - 10 lead, Tows ambition became their undoing as Swindon stripped the ball as Tows tried to run from deep and crossed for a score of their own, but Tows soon got back in the rythym and good hands through the backs put Matt Yuill in and then a forwards try as Tows pack drove from a line out, Captain Zac Osborne coming up with the ball, a long miss pass then put in Alex Chalcraft, Falvey converting all three for a halftime lead of 5 - 31
Turning around into the wind Tows took the option of a Falvey penalty early on, this was followed by Swindons best period of the game, their forwards battering the Tows defence eventually to create space and suck enough defenders in for their centre to run the angle and crash over, Swindon continued to try and match the Tows expansive running style and came unstuck as a pass fell into the grateful arms of Chalcraft who ran the length of the field to score his 20th of the season, another sharp score from Yuill and a penalty saw the game won and Tows romped in another three tries from Falvey, Chalcraft and finally Scott Browne sandwiching a score from Swindon, Falvey's 100% kicking seeing him record a 32 point haul.
The gap at the top remains at 5 points from Salisbury who also recorded a bonus point win and with 3 games to go Tows know that they cannot afford any mistakes, this week they take on Trowbridge at Home
Towcestrians 2nd XV finished their league campaign in impressive fashion, clinching the league title with a perfect record of 12 wins, a hugely well deserved achievement and now look forward to the Lewis Shield final at Franklins Gardens
Tows 3rd XV saw off Bletchley 2nd's by some distance and the Colts overcame regular rivals Southam 45 - 10
