Towcestrians crowned Champions after emphatic victory

Towcestrians produced a dazzling display of running rugby to claim automatic promotion back to the National Leagues, an eleven try blitz of High Wycombe gave Tows the points they needed, with Salisbury failing to clinch a bonus point in their match, Tows stood six points clear at the top of the League with only one match remaining

Director of Rugby, Robbie George was keen to show the players and his coaching squad praise "Its been a difficult few weeks and we are delighted to have finally got over the line, all season the effort of all the coaches and all the players that have played for the first team has been excellent, we can now relax and enjoy ourselves this Saturday"

It was a tough week for Tows, who on Tuesday evening had exited the Alliance Cup in the Semi-Final against local rivals Old Northamptonians and also had influencial skipper Zac Osborne dismissed to make him ineligible for the two remaining league fixtures, but the Tows, who all season have always bounced back after poor performances, turned in a complete display

The tries came quickly after early pressure got Tows on the front foot, Craig Holton finishing from a Penalty scrum, James Falvey adding the extras, Wes McGimpsey, playing in the centre, crossed for a quick brace with winger Matt Yuill securing the bonus point before half time, all converted, for a 28 - 0 lead

The second half continued with more of the same, a break from lively scrum half Dave Stocks put Scott Browne in, with Pepe Nanci and Stocks himself adding further scores, a barreling break from Man of the Match, Pete Gowler, was finished by Sam Sturley, further tries from Ben Roe, Jordan Brew and Yuill with his second, four converted by Falvey for a final score of 71 - 0, all eyes then turned to the RFU website as the scores came in and when Salisbury failed to score a bonus point in their win over Witney, Tows knew that the League Title and Promotion was theirs

The Tows can now look forward to the last home game of the season next Saturday to Swanage & Wareham, in front of what will be the largest crowd of the season as the Tows host a Past Players Re-union lunch, but before that the wider squad, including many of the First XV, will look to add the Lewis Shield to both the 1st XV and 2nd XV league titles on Tuesday 19th at Franklins Gardens

Elsewhere the 3rds continued their winning run with a comprehensive win over BBOB and can claim second place in their league on Saturday at the first time of asking, the Colts found Syston too strong and went down 7 - 43
