In a topsy turvey game which produced no less than seven yellow cards and had both teams down to 12 men for periods, it was the hosts who came through with the win and took their chances when numbers were in their favour.
The 1st half belonged to Tows, the long road trip to Cheshire being run off with a first minute try from a rolling maul, scored by Lock, Keiran Frost, Ben Roe added the extras, Sandbach responded with a try of their own from wide out and the conversion followed by a penalty to cancel out a further Ben Roe penalty tied the scores at 10 - 10, Tows ran the kick off back, the ball going quickly through hands to release Matt Bodily to finish, again Roe converting followed by another Roe penalty to extend the lead to 10 points, Tows then produced some great passages of play, Sandbach had little answer to Tows flowing rugby and tries from Yuon Skelton and Alex Chalcraft saw Tows lead at half time 10 - 32
Backed by a vocal support Sandbach rallied at the start of the second half, their Hooker going over for a score, but this was quickly cancelled out by a second try from Bodily for Tows to lead by 22 points, Yellow cards then started to rain down on the game with both teams being punished for infringements rather than foul play, Tows failed to take full opportunity against reduced numbers and when Tows found themselves short handed the hosts took full advantage, running in two converted scores, with 3 in the bin for the final few minutes the Tows scrum came under intense pressure and conceded a penalty try, the conversion going over with the last kick of the game for what seemed a highly unlikely Sandbach victory at halftime, 41 - 39, Tows collecting 2 bonus points for their efforts
After the game, Director of Rugby, Robbie George commented "There were an unusually high number of Yellow cards for a clean game, but this was definitely a result we let slip through our fingers, our disappointment is that we didn't respond properly to the game situation, hopefully some harsh lessons have been learned and we are a better side for the experience"
Next week Towcestrians host Derby, the visitors sit one place and one point above Tows in 4th place, with the clocks changing Kick Off is now 2:15pm
