Coach George "Lack of consistency let us down"

Towcestrians faced a tough away trek to high flying Broadstreet, who with several Coventry academy players featuring were looking to consolidate their place in the top 3 of this keenly contested league.

Tows failed to produce the fast start they needed and crept back into their unwanted habit of one bad half followed by a good one, after being totally outplayed in the first half they came back to put the rampant Coventry side under pressure.

Broadstreet, from the start, drove Tows scrum back who conceded an early penalty for the home side to take the lead 3-0, and with their slick backs taking the ball at pace and moving it quickly a couple of tries came within the first 16 minutes to make Tows look outclassed, but when 'Street collected a Yellow card it gave Tows breathing room and a chance to get into the game, Ben Roe narrowly missing a penalty to get on the board, but Tows hard working forwards rumbled the home side back 20 yards for industrious back rower, Nicky Blackham, to get on the scoreboard to celebrate him passing his 50th appearance for the 1st XV, STreet soon came back and Tows needed all hands on deck, but when Chrissie George was binned it allowed the home side space to create two more tries and run out the half 25-5 ahead.

The second half saw a different game from Tows and despite going down to 13 men briefly, following another Yellow card, this time for the newly interpreted high tackle law, continued to take the game to the home side, Dave Devlin-Jones crashing over for Ben Roe to convert, Tows continued to apply pressure and for long periods camped on Broadstreets line, a series of penalties and 5 metre line-outs went unconverted, desperately defended by the home side, a wild pass from Tows was then gratefully accepted by the home sides winger who ran in for the final score of the game.

After the game Tows Director of Rugby, Robbie George, commented "Our lack of consistency has let us down, Broadstreet are a good side and you can't afford to give them an easy start as we did, the second half was a big improvement but the damage had already been done by then, we know we are good enough to compete with anyone at this level, but we have to put in 80 minute performances"

Next week Tows are at home and play in front of a packed Greens Norton Road Vice Presidents Day crowd against Sandbach, elsewhere around the Tows, the 2nd XV produced a great display to dispatch Broadstreet 2nd XV also away, 3 - 37, the 3rd XV lost out at Bedford Athletic 2nd XV
