Tows outgunned by Lichfield

With half of the City of Lichfield turning up to cheer on not just their first team but also the Lichfield ladies team, who played following this game, featuring six of the current England ladies squad as a show of support after being turned down for a place in the newly formed Womens Super League, Tows found themselves on the wrong end of a loud partisan crowd.

Lichfield looked to release their backs early and ran in an early converted try, from winger Bamidele Fadahunsi, Tows quickly responded when Jamie Warr picked up at the base of a scrum to dummy and go over, Scott Browne adding the extras, returning after a long injury lay off.

Both sides looked to run the ball in the excellent conditions, the home side carving through to score under the posts, Tows again came back with a quickly tapped penalty to release Matt Yuill for the score, again converted to tie the scores at 14-14, Lich went ahead again on the stroke of half time, moving the ball from a penalty scrum to again go over under the sticks and turn around 7 points ahead.

Lichfield then produced a purple patch of running rugby that Tows were unable to cope with , capitalising on any Tows error to run the ball back, Lichfield full-back, Greg Massey to the fore, it was during this spell that the game was taken away from Tows, conceding four tries, two converted, to find themselves 45-14 down, in typical fashion Tows were not done, when most other teams would have capitulated, Tows fought back to claim a try bonus point of thier own in the last tem minutes, Kieran Frost going over from a line out drive and a last gasp score from scrum half, Gus Hopewell

The loss puts Tows down in 11th place in the league with 3 league games left and this coming weekend face a crucial match against Syston, who are below Tows in the league, in front of what should be our own partisan Past players Lunch crowd, 3pm Kick off

Elsewhere a strong Tows 3rd XV did just enough to end Bedford Ath 2's winning streak, with a 15 - 14 victory
