Tows finish season with heavy loss but look forward to next

Towcestrians successful first season back in the National leagues came to an end away from home on Saturday with a heavy defeat to already relegated Bedford Athletic, following Tows heartbreaking last minute loss on Wednesday evening 27 - 26 in the Alliance Cup Final to ON's under the lights of Franklins Gardens, Tows squad was heavily depleted with injuries and absentees, meaning some less regular members of the squad travelled to the Ath.

The effects of a heavy run in and a depleted side showed almost immediately as Tows leaked tries and found themselves 22 - 0 down after just 7 minutes, Bedford Ath playing with confidence and looking to give their supporters something to cheer about on the final day of the season.

Tows did manage some sort of fightback with tries from Eugene Baxter & Sam Sturley, but a fifth try for the home side just before half time gave Ath a 27-12

The second half continued in the same vein, Bedford backs finding gaps in Tows defence to run in four more tries, Tows having the last laugh with centre Dave Devlin-Jones strolling in under the sticks after good work from the forwards, it was a disappointing finish to what has been a successful first season and not the way that retiring scrum half Dave Stocks would have wanted to finish his first team career with the Tows after 12 seasons

Tows seconds concluded thier season with a narrow loss against undefeated league winners Hinckley 2nd's 17 - 27 and the Colts overcame Daventry 14 - 12

Once again it has been another successful season for all teams at the Tows, The 1st XV preserving league status was the primary objective and a combined squad defending the Lewis Shield was a special achievement, Towcestrians 2nd and 3rd XV's played at the highest level they have ever played at and proved to be highly competitive and the Colts came on strong at the end of the season, there is a lot of positives to look forward to next season and beyond.

Editors Note:
Once again the Towcestrians press office would like to thank everyone for their support, help and readership, a special mention and thankyou goes out to our roving pitch side correspondent, Bob Price, who has not missed a single game.

We wish everyone an enjoyable summer and we will see you all on the Tows touchline in September!
