Tough opener for Tows in new League

Towcestrians opened the new season in a new division having been moved across leagues out of the Midlands Premier Division into the money laden London and South Premier Division due to too many Midlands teams promoted or relegated to the same level last season, not only putting serious pressure on the squad with some significant long journeys but financial pressure as well with a massive amount of costs travelling to South London, Surrey, Essex and Kent visiting places as far afield as Southend and Tunbridge Wells, kicking off the season against the farthest afield, promotion favourites Guernsey Raiders who made the 230 mile trip up on the Saturday morning was always going to be a tough ask and it showed the Tows squad that this division is another step up from that of the league they contested in well last season.

The Islanders soon imposed their power on this match gaining early scrum dominance leading to two early tries, Tows looking shell-shocked then allowed Guernseys scrum half to take a quick tap and run in under the posts, the visitors were in control from start to end and drove over a line out penalty, followed by good hands to release the Guernsey wing to score wide out, Tows produced their one spell of pressure and managed to cross, Matt Yuill going over, but Guernsey responded to score again and finish the half 5 - 40, despite Tows best efforts the pace and power of the Guernsey Raiders was too much and just showed the Tows that they need to be much more physical in this division, Guernsey completed the second half rout with five more tries.

Tows 2nd XV had a much better day, travelling 90 miles north to Shropshire to play Newport, coming back from 18 - 3 down to win 24 - 35 and the 3rd's continued where they left off last year beating Casuals 2nd XV 53 - 12, The Colts overcame Rushden & Higham 28 - 15
