Towcestrians forced foray into the London league brought another new team to Greens Norton Road in the form of Sutton&Epsom RFC, whose slick running proved too much for Tows to handle in the end after a bright start gave the Tows hope.
Tows crossed the line as early as the 1st minute when No.8 Callum Threlfall went over for an individual try in what was to be an eventful afternoon for the abrasive back rower, Sutton replied with a penalty but Tows went further ahead when a break from midfield by Alex Chalcraft saw Wes McGympsey collect his kick ahead to score between the posts and give the home team a fast 12 - 3 lead James Falvey adding the extras
This only served to up the intensity and pace of the visitors who turned on the style and they crossed for 3 quick tries all converted and followed it with a penalty on the stroke of half time to turn around 12 - 25 ahead
Tows hope of getting back in the match was soon distinguished when Threlfall collected a harsh yellow card for interfering with a quick tap penalty on half way and tries followed from the visitors in quick succession led by their impressive no.8, Threlfalls return did not last long when he collected his second yellow of the game for a committed tackle on both the opposition and his own player, which looked entirely fair from the touchline, but the referee deemed a lack of the use of arms in the tackle, 14 man Tows battled bravely to stem the tide, Chalcraft took his chance to collect a rare loose ball to score under the posts for Tows but Sutton had the last word completing this 8 try defeat for Tows
With some tough away games to come coupled with a depleted squad through injury, including club captain Zac Osborne out for 5 months after surgery to an injured shoulder, Tows need to get this season on track quickly, and adjust to the size, power and pace of teams in this league which far exceeds anything this squad have faced in their previous successful campaigns
