Towcestrians injury woes continued forcing them to blood two newcomers in the front row for this away league fixture down at Dorking, both coming out of the game with huge credit, Harry Knibbs at hooker and prop Daniel Bennett delivering committed performances in Dorkings setting below Box Hill
The inexperienced Tows side gave travelling support hope by gaining more than their fair share of possession but the step up to Dorking, who were National 2 not long ago, showed through as the home team scored three tries with limited field position to turn around 19 - 0 ahead
Dorking started the second half in similar fashion, increasing their lead with a converted try, in spite of a yellow card, Tows efforts at last bore some fruit as Dave Devlin-Jones crossed after a prolonged period of Tows pressure, Dorking responded with a try of their own, with the game going to uncontested scrums Tows lightweight pack continued to keep control of the ball and pressed, only to see the ball dislodged from the excellent Nathan Payne's hands as he was about to score. Dorking finished the game strongly, Tows Will Dunkley coming to the rescue a couple of times with cover tackles when tries seemed certain, late tries from the home side flattered the score line but despite the defeat Tows travelling support all agreed that the continuing efforts of the squad to cope in this league could not be falted.
Tows 2nd XV, shorn of a number of players to the 1st team cause, suffered their first defeat of the season going down to a tough Derby outfit 17 - 39. Tows 3rd XV continue to dominate the majority of teams they play, having their game ended after just 60 minutes, in a miss-match against a brave Lutterworth 3rd XV with Mike Bristows side 88 points to the good.
Next week Tows face fellow strugglers Southend-on-sea, who make the long journey to Greens Norton Road, a huge support will be needed to lift the injury laden Tows as they search for their first victory of an already difficult season.
