They came out second best to Nottingham side Paviors who move to second in Midlands 1 East, having won five from six league outings.
Paviors’ rugby was as dashing as their post match attire and they were on the scoreboard within minutes with a converted try.
Tows’ inventive fly half Chrissie George countered for the hosts, spinning the ball wide and then looping his centres to prize apart the Paviour’s back line.
He tore through a mammoth hole and, with a triumphant fist, swallow dived across the line.
Tows seemed to have a foothold in the game but the spark ignited by George was shortlived.
Paviors moved the ball quickly from the breakdown and their fly half Doug Billan stretched the lead to 12 points before the half was out.
He added a penalty and then slipped through to score, converting his own try to make it 17-5.
This was despite the best efforts of Tows scrum half Dave Stocks, whose searing break was stopped just short.
Tows pressed forward in the second half and wing James Falvey kept them afloat by thwarting an attack in the 45th minute.
But as Tows pressurised the Paviors’ line, the final pass was intercepted for the centre to run the length of the field to score and deal a killer blow to the hosts.
Tows unleashed their secret weapon in an attempt to salvage the game and brought on their battering ram Matt Bodily.
He crashed through the middle to set Tows going forward again and the ball popped up to Pete Gowler.
Known as Growler to his friends, the debutant prop surged forward, span out of a tackle and, still spinning, crashed over to touch down.
Paviors had the final say when Billan stepped inside the defence to score under the posts and earn his team a winning bonus point.
They emerged from the changing room dressed up country gents - in keeping with rugby’s fancy dress tradition - wearing flat caps, checked shirts and tweed jackets.
Tows travel to Leighton Buzzard, who have yet to win a game in Midland 1 East this season, next week for their next League game.
