Utility back James Falvey had a near perfect kicking game as Tows triumphed in a ding dong encounter away at Coalville.

Falvey, playing on the wing but equally at home at full back or centre, stamped his mark on the game by converting of seven of Tows’ eight tries.

Coalville are struggling at the bottom of Midlands East 1 but caused an upset by knocking over Nuneaton last week.

Tows knew therefore they would have their work cut out and started brightly with a try from No 8 Chris Kirby after five minutes.

They were repeatedly penalised in the scrum however and by the 25 minute mark the hosts had closed the gap to 6-7 through two penalties.

Now conforming to the referee’s wishes, the Tows pack drove back the home eight for scrum half Dave Stocks to tap down.

They added another try soon after when full back Matt Yuill collected a range-finder and released Chrissie George to score under the posts.

Now 15 points up, they switched off and a quick penalty saw Coalville right wing Russ James cross for a try to make it 11-21 at half time.

Tows responded straight after the restart with Kirby bagging his second, providing Tows with a bonus point.

But Coalville again refused to lie down and hacked through to score a second try to keep Tows in check at 18-28.

The game swung back to Tows when Richard Tustian added a trademark score from a line out drive.

Immediately Coalville bounced back, this time driving their No 8 over for a try to make it 23-33.

From the whistle, Tows hit back. Chrissie George tricked the defence by chipping into space for Dave Williams to race over in the corner.

With the hosts desperate to salvage a bonus point, they threw caution to the wind allowing Tows to score the try of the day.

Turning over ball on their line, Tows flipped the ball between forwards and backs for Stocks to score his second under the posts.

Another try followed from Adam Wilkinson, a just reward for another workmanlike game, and Tows now lead by 31 points.

But Coalville had the final word, scoring late into injury time to seal the bonus point and lift themselves off the bottom of the table.

Tows meanwhile move to fourth place, leapfrogging Ilkeston, adding extra spice to their encounter at Greens Norton Road at 2.15pm on Saturday.
