Tows picked up their first point of the season in this narrow defeat to Westcombe Park, who travelled from Kent to Towcester for the second time in 4 weeks, after the original league fixture was abandoned due to the weather with the scores level at 13 all, and it was the visitors huge pack that did the damage in the first half as they applied the pressure, Tows giving away a string of penalties as they failed to contain Westcombe at the set piece stifling Tows ambition to play an expansive game.
The visitors were in complete control of the first half and tries from Bradley Bateup and James Lindfield along with a conversion and two penalties from Miki Zanirato saw Westcombe Park take a big early lead 0 - 20, Tows replied with a try from debutant winger Dario Germain after great work from Liam Wilkinson in the back row, James Falvey converted and Tows finished the half 7 - 27 down after a penalty try was awarded to the visitors for collapsing the scrum close out.
The second half proved much more positive for Tows as they looked to move the big pack wider and play a more expansive game, Callum Threlfall forced his way over and James Falvey crossed, his conversion striking the post to bring Tows back into the game at 19 - 27, but Zanirato's 3rd penalty and a try from blindside Ryan Hackett took the game away from Tows.
The match finished with uncontested scrums with both sides depleted of props, Tows took advantage of this with frantic efforts to get their fourth and bonus point try, this came after constant pressure and Eugene Baxter finished off a good passage of play, while the visitors creaked they held on to secure the win.
Towcestrians 2nd XV continue to impress in the Midland Reserve League as they came from 7 - 17 behind to beat a very strong Burton upon Trent 2nd XV 32 - 17 and remain unbeaten in the division, tries for Tows from Jonty Barrie, Adam Wilkinson, Matt Yuill, Kyle Browne and Conor Cahill scoring on his return to the side after a 3 year absence, Callum Garwood & Matt Yuill kicking a conversion each with Garwood adding a penalty.
