Tows get first win under belts back in Midlands One

Towcestrians picked up their first win back in Midlands One after a six season absence, the last two years plying their trade in Midlands Premier League and last season in the very demanding London & South East Premier League and were keen to get back to winning ways after a tough relegation season.

The Midlands division certainly provides a complete change of opposition of late with a large number of exciting local derby's for the Greens Norton Road faithful to enjoy and plenty of enjoyable easy accessible away fixtures, starting at Home with the visit of old rivals Lutterworth.

Tows side was depleted from last year but in front of a sun bathed crowd started brightly, Ben Roe opening his account for the season with a well taken penalty, a break from Jordan Brew lead to a Matt Yuill try, Roe adding the extra's and Tows were ahead by ten points, the visitors struck back through an interception try under Tows posts against the run of play, but Tows looked capable every time they got the ball and it was Aaron Goodman, returning to Tows who scored next, finishing a fine handling move, with two further penalties from Roe, Tows finished the half 21 - 7 to the good.

The second half got underway with Lutterworth's fly half missing a comfortable penalty but their heavier pack started to take control and pushed Tows over for an unconverted score, Roe calmed things with a fourth penalty and followed that with a huge touchfinder from the kick off to put Lutts back under pressure, but it was Lutterworth who scored next, Tows scrum again creaking they conceded possession on their own put in and Lutterworth went over for another try, converted to take the visitors to within a try at 24 - 19

Tows continued to spread the ball wide, Craig Holton to the fore who released Pepe Nanci to score wide out to give Tows breathing space, Lutterworth played to the end and had the last word, picking up a losing bonus and a try bonus point to boot when their centre outpaced the cover to score.

Elsewhere Tows 2nd XV started with a thumping win 57 - 7 against Lutterworth 2's

After the game Director of Rugby, Robbie George, was delighted to get a first win "I was really pleased with the start we made, we played with confidence on the ball and looked really comfortable in the first quarter, we showed some poor discipline and made some mistakes which was the reason they had a foothold in the game, and they took those opportunities, I'm confident we can learn from those mistakes and continue to build on the positive entertaining rugby we played for the first half"

Tows are away from home next Saturday to Melton Mowbray, 3pm kick off
