Young Tows side undone late on

A young Tows team travelled to the Leicester Tigers training ground on Saturday to face an Oadby Wyggestonians side who had put sixty points on their last opponents and were full of confidence.

Tows were shorn of several first team regulars due to a poorly timed stag weekend but the young side did not let down the shirt and put in a strong performance, Tows built a quick lead thanks to two of the more senior players going in for tries, Matt Yuill and Pepe Nanci, one converted, the heavyweight Wyggs outfit got back into the game with two tries of their own through winger, Guy Want, both converted to lead 14-12 and a third converted try eased them clear, Tows responded with a penalty and then regained the lead in this see-saw game with a Craig Holton try converted by James Falvey for a slender one point lead at half time 21 - 22

Tows again started the better in the second half, fly-half Callum Garwood putting Tows on the front foot, releasing Matt Yuill who dummied his opposing number and then fed Adam Wilkinson for a try wide out, Falvey adding the extras, Wyggs came back with a penalty, Tows debutant winger Sam Aitchison enjoyed his afternoon finding space to run the ball before the heavily out-sized Tows pack kept it tight to move the ball up field and then Ali Haynes sprinted clear through the middle of a maul to score another try for Tows, this time Falveys conversion hitting the post, the lead extended to ten points with less than a quarter of the match left

The shear weight of the Wyggs pack and powerful running in the centres took its toll on Tows as they failed to contain Wyggs who moved the ball downfield to score two tries in quick succession, one converted to lead by two points and a final penalty saw out the game, Tows will have to be content with two losing bonus points and remain second in the Midlands One ( East)

This coming friday Tows again play host to a derby game, the visit of Old Northamptonians in the league is sure to draw an even bigger crowd than the Scouts game a couple of weeks ago 7.30pm Kick Off.

Tows 2nd XV with a mixture of 3rd teamers overcame Burton 47 - 10 for a great win, the Colts going down at Kettering
