Towcestrians poor run of away form continued as another much changed Tows side, including debutants Dave Armstrong at full back, George Raven at blindside and Conor Frost in the second row, went down narrowly away to Wellingboro on friday night.
The young Tows side started poorly conceding a couple of kickable penalties, both missed, before falling off tackles to allow easy territory to the home side, another penalty concession was this time converted by Paul Vickery to take a 3 - 0 lead, Tows then slipped further behind allowing Boro's winger to arc through a hesitant defence, converted to put Tows ten points down, Tows looked to move the ball wide, away from their outweighed pack and were rewarded with a penalty kicked by Callum Garwood for a half-time deficit of 10 - 3
A second Garwood penalty encouraged Tows but the home teams ball carriers scored a blind side try and with Tows getting on the wrong side of ref, Andy Oliver, picked up four yellow cards to find themselves down to 13 men on two occasions, and with depleted numbers Boro's pack won a penalty try, to take the game out of sight. Tows did finish with a flourish, Cameron Young scoring two tries late on, using his pace to create the opportunities from nothing and earn Tows a losing bonus point, but it will be viewed as a missed opportunity where discipline certainly contributed to Tows losing a game they could have won.
Coach Robbie George said after the game "too many changes is really hurting this side on a weekly basis, however, this creates opportunities and it was great to see Dave, George and Conor from our youth development, make their own impacts, and I look forward to seeing them in Tows colours in the future"
Tows 2nd XV came out on top, 31 - 26, in a highly entertaining end to end game on Saturday at Greens Norton Rd against Banbury 2nd's after going behind early on.
On Sunday morning Tows said farewell to co-founder of Tows Mini and Junior section, Roy Titmuss, who recently passed away, when all age groups came together for a minutes silence, back in 1981 when Tows mini's were formed there were 9 children in that first group and now the section boasts over 300 boys and girls enjoying the Tows experience, a fantastic legacy.
