Wilkinson try blitz downs Buzzard

Tows arrived at the halfway stage of the season looking to put right the close defeats of the last two weeks, with Leighton Buzzard having targeted this game as a must win following a poor start to the season which saw them in the bottom two.

The home side elected to play up the hill in the first half with a fierce wind at their backs and opened the scoring quickly with a penalty, gradually Tows started to take control and exerted pressure which resulted in an opening try for Ali Haynes, James Falvey unable to convert in tricky kicking conditions, a second try for Tows came before half time when Craig Holton crossed for Tows to lead 3 - 10 and have the elements in the second half.

Calum Threlfall's physicality brought him a yellow card early on but Tows seven man scrum held firm, a penalty lineout was won and the ball moved to see winger Adam Wilkinson join the line and cross under the posts, this was the catalyst for a brilliant spell for the Tows winger as he quickly added a second try and ran three quarters of the length of the pitch to outpace the cover and complete a quick fire hat-trick, Falvey converting two of them to take the game away from Buzzard as Tows went 3 - 29 ahead, Cam Young from the other wing got in on the act with a try of his own after Ben Roe's boot gained huge territory, Roe using the wind unlike Buzzard had in the first half, and the home side were on the end of another three scores , Falvey converting his own try, a Sam Pamment score and the game ending with Tom Threlfall going over for Tows ninth try of the game, converted by Falvey.

The win completes the first half of matches in the League, with Tows in eighth place they will feel confident they can improve on that position and the final League game before the Christmas break is next Saturday against bottom side Melton Mowbray at Greens Norton Rd, kick off 2:15pm, that match will hopefully be preceded by a Tows Old Boys XV taking on Daventry.

Tows 2nd XV played a double header League and Cup game away at Syston and came back with a terrific 14 - 17 victory.
