Tows extend winning run away at ON's

Towcestrians completed a league double away against local rivals ON's and extend their winning run to five games, all with bonus points, to draw level on points with Peterborough in Midlands One East in fourth spot, and build confidence before third placed Oundle travel to Greens Norton Road this coming Saturday.

Playing down the slope in the first half, Tows took the lead, Craig Holton bursting through tackles off the back of a scrum, ON's responded with a period of sustained possession and territory leading to a converted try, Tows looked to have regained the lead through a threequarters move, but excellent ref. James Nimmo spotted an infringement. Holton picked up a yellow card leaving Tows to defend out the remainder of the half one short, ON's Rivans missing the resulting penalty kick.

Tows started the second half with a bang, Callum Threlfall breaking to find fellow back rower Callum Jones in support, James Falvey adding the extras for Tows to take back the lead 7 - 12, a Penalty from Rivans and a converted try saw ON's retake the lead, but it would be the last score for the home side as Tows took control, prompted by gain line breaks from Falvey at full back, winger Cameron Young continued his excellent form with a terrific finish, Falvey adding the extras, the ever abrasive Threlfall then elected, for once, to avoid the contact and put in a deft kick ahead for winger Adam Wilkinson to gather and score wide out, Falvey, having a mixed day with the boot, converted from the touchline.

Tows left the best till last, running from their own 22, with a series of passes, debutant Alex Bucknall, son of Tows legend Phil, prominent in the move that resulted in Callum Jones going over for his second score and Tows fifth try of the day.

Tows 2's suffered a heartbreaking last minute defeat, in a league double header, against Derby, Tows hooker Jordan Brew having an outstanding match in the loose.
