All of the early pressure came from newly promoted Market Bosworth as their sizeable pack bossed the scrums and lineouts. It was to no surprise that the visitors took the lead after ten minutes and converted from the touchline.
This spurred Tows’ scrum to show last season’s form by driving over from five metres giving N0 8 Craig Holton a chance to dot down over the line. Marc Yeates converted.
Tows then upped the pace and a devastating break from full back Charlie Barker then found scrum half Dave Stocks in support resulted in a magnificent try for Towcester. Yeates again converted.
Towcester’s running game began to gain a measure of control as the ball was spread wide through a prolific passing display to the ubiquitous Holton who scored his second try of the afternoon.
The half finished with a successful Bosworth Penalty, despite the efforts of a distracting Vulcan bomber flypast, bringing the score to 19-10.
The second half started with a blistering try for Tows’ winger Adam Wilkinson under the posts to strengthen the Tows lead. However back came Bosworth with a strong lineout drive resulting in a try which kept them in the game.
Tows immediately replied with quick hands to release Pepe Nanci for a score and James Falvey converting. They then capitalized on a handling error from the visitors. Chrissie George pounced on the ball and sprinted three quarters of the pitch to dive in under the posts. Falvey added the two points.
With the revolving doors of rolling replacements coming into play this season and a host of yellow cards the game began to lose shape, however a fine angled run from centre Dave Williams, fresh from the bench, saw him run unopposed under the posts.
Market Bosworth worked their line out drive again to score but again Towcester came straight back with Adam Wilkinson scoring his second and Tows’ eighth try to seal a winning start to the season for Towcestrians.
