Towcester 36 Lutterworth 20
Towcester jumped to top of the League table after unpicking Lutterworth at Greens Norton Road.
While title rivals Peterborough Lions slipped at Market Harborough, Tows continued their unbeaten march.
After 12 matches, they now sit top of Midlands 2 East (South), four points clear of former front runners Lions.
Despite having to ring changes through illness and injury, Tows continued their impressive form from the first whistle.
Within 20 minutes, they were 19-0 up with tries from wingers Aaron Goodman and James Tilley, a push-over grounded by scrum-half Dave Stocks and a conversion from Matt Yuill.
Lutterworth hit back when their winger intercepted the ball on his 22 to run the length of the pitch to score, but Tows responded via a second Goodman try to keep a clear advantage.
In the second half, the visitors’ heavy pack adapted their game to the stodgy conditions underfoot and came at Tows with a series of pick and drives.
They narrowed the score to 24-15 through a penalty and a pushover try and the match was looking a little too close for comfort for the home crowd.
In answer, Tows’ three-quarters turned on the style with an end-to-end score. They ran out of defence for the supporting Craig Holton to touch down.
Lutterworth came back again, muscling over from a line-out drive, but Yuill put the game to bed with a try round the blindside of a scrum.
