Triumphant Tows Move to Second

Triumphant Tows Move to Second

Hugo Austin4 Nov 2013 - 18:47

On Saturday Towcester faced the prospect of a hard fought contest as they travelled away to second place Swindon.

In the opening exchanges both sides experimented with the windy conditions as they attempted to run the ball. It was physical from the start as both sets of forwards challenged to get on top, possession changing hands numerous times. It was Swindon who drew first blood, Captain Adam Westall converting a penalty for the home team after fifteen minutes.
Tows were coping well with the strength of the opposition. After managing to disrupt a line out Towcester’s backs swiftly spread the ball to Matt Yuill to finish with the first try of the match.
The game plan of both teams was then forced to change as conditions deteriorated.
The home team found themselves under intense pressure as the visitors battered at their line. After the barrage the ball was released out to fly half Harry Hopewell who ghosted through a gap in the defence to score under the posts. Falvey defied the wind to add the conversion.
Tows were now in their prime, expert handling set up Captain Sam Sturley to score a scorcher. Falvey again overcame the conditions to slot the conversion.
After the break Tows now faced the wind. This however did not stop them from scoring again. A neat break from Ben Roe was supported and deftly finished off by Captain Sam Sturley to gain him a brace.
Midway through the half, the visitors seemed to be in control, only to momentarily lose concentration allowing strong running replacement Hayden Ambler to run in. The try was expertly converted by Westall who judged the wind superbly.
This though was too little too late for Swindon as the Towcestrians pack drowned out the game and secured a pleasing win. Tows now in second place in the league
