. In the morning it had contrived to dry the saturated pitch sufficiently to play the match and during the game it ensured it would not be an open flowing contest. Reading arrived with a sizeable pack which could well have given them the advantage in such conditions. Tows started with the elements behind them but this was not to their advantage as passes were blown forward disrupting any momentum and Reading keeping the ball firmly with their forwards.
A long period of stalemate was eventually broken when Fly Half Chrissie George ran a quick penalty slipped the ball to Marc Yates who burst through to finish converted by Matt Yuill. Going into the break Reading would well have thought the game was in their grasp with the wind in their favour.
Tows quickly showed that they had other ideas early in the first half going firmly on the offensive, several chances failing to go to hand. A break from inspirational skipper Liam Wilkinson seemed to be wasted when his brother coming off his wing latched onto the loose ball and darting over between the posts Yuill’s conversion putting the home side 14 points clear.
The remainder of the game followed a familiar pattern, Reading on gaining possession would kick long, and Tows would pick and drive back up the pitch, the weather forcing them not to kick away possession which worked in their favour. A strong defensive display meant Tows held on to the clean sheet and took the league points .
