Looking for a quick start to the game the home team’s scrum half Rhys Davies, who was influential throughout, ran a few quick penalties to see his team on the front foot. The nine’s quick thinking lead to the first points through a penalty kick.
Tows replied through their forwards who drove a line out from the five metre line, Fen Gallagher dotted down, Falvey converted.
The game then went into a large period of just end to end rugby, looking to use the wind to his advantage Ben Roe kicked to touch to try and pin the opposition back, however on a few occasions he misjudged the kick so that the ball went dead.
An overthrow at the line out saw Windsor fly half pick up and run at the Tows line. Finally after endless pressure on the Tows line, Davies dived over from a scrum for a half time score of 10 – 7.
At the turn around Tows took the game to Windsor, in spite of full back Falvey having to come in at scrum half for injured Ronnie Speakman. His quick thinking as he took a quick tap penalty lead to a try from Matt Yuill. Falvey again converted from the touchline.
Now came a period of attacking prowess from Tows as Falvey dived in from short range, shortly followed by Tom George’s run from thirty yards after a blindside break from a scrum. Falvey’s excellent kicking display continued as he slotted both of the tries.
Windsor looked to be finished, but proved otherwise, Tows failed to clear their lines and after some serious pressure Windsor scored after their fourth consecutive scrum, the conversion lifting the home support.
Now with their tails up Windsor took the game to Tows, centre Patrick Birch crashing over from a penalty. The successful kick meant that Tows were only two points to the good.
Tows’ forwards now had to protect the ball through phases and just let the clock keep ticking over. A poor decision to kick to touch came back to haunt the visitors as Windsor broke out and won a penalty on halfway. With the ground hushed the ball was kicked slightly wide of the posts, giving Tows the win.
