After last weeks' cancelled fixture, it was good to be playing again. This week, another trip Away to play Earlsdon RFC. Having not played them before, they were an unknown team for us.
Our focus was on our game and ensuring less silly mistakes and less penalties. Quick hands, straight running and supportive rucking. The pitch was in great condition with a decent length of grass, and after a week of rain – the ground itself wasn't too hard either.
First five minutes was very even, a few unforced errors from Tows meant we were struggling to get in their half. Quick hands from a turnover though, and Harvey got the ball and made a great run to force his way through their line and run half the length of the pitch to secure a great try and get us on the score sheet. Harvey also converted from in front of the posts; 0-7 to Tows.
Our second try came from another good run, this time from JJ – handing off a couple of tackles, he was through and we were 0-14 up after Harvey's nudge between the posts.
Our next try came from the Forwards, Ricardo doing another strong run from a few yards out. Harvey once again didn't let us down. 0-21 to Tows. From the kick-off, the ball went straight to Deamer, and he showed us a superb turn of pace! The prop handing off a tackle and he was off! Straight run that got him within yards of try before they caught him and brought him down, but a sweet pop before he was down and Taylor took the ball and powered to the line. A great team try and awesome run from James. 0-28 to Tows.
Despite the scoreline, there was some decent spell of pressure from Earlsdon, but our Forwards had a decent half and pretty much cancelled out any threats. The second half started with the wind slightly in our favour now, and we should have put the game to bed. However, a series of unforced errors and a few 'white-line-fever' moments cost us around four clear try opportunities. It was a good 15 minutes before JJ broke the deadlock and got us another try. Harvey converted too - 0-35 to Tows.
JJ's running was great today and it wasn't long before he had the ball on the wing and ran through their defence and had his third try of the day. Harv got the kick again, 0-42 Tows.
Our seventh try came from the Man-of-the-Match. Joe has really been putting in the work since we were able to start training again – his fitness and gym work paid off today with some great runs and superb tackles. And one of those runs resulted in a try today - really pleased for him as it was a great performance that was rewarded with this try - Harvey, shock, missed the conversion. He rarely misses, but just one slipped past the post today. 0-47 Tows.
After a good performance from our competitors, they were tiring in the last five mins. JJ took full advantage and secured his fourth try of the day as the last play. Harvey put it away for the conversion, so the final score ended up 0-54.
